Yesterday was a pretty high-calorie day for me, due mainly to not one but TWO social-eating occasions, including one with alcohol. But there was dancing! If you’re interested in seeing the nutritional breakdown of what I’ve been eating, you can check out my fitday page here.
Anyway so the two events I had to navigate raw were taking my boss out to lunch and eating out with some friends before we went out dancing. Lunch was pretty simple – got sashimi and a salad – while dinner I was *pretty* good, but did have a few bites of tofu and three pieces of a yummy lotus root concoction. It was also a big fish day for me! I think I ate more fish in one day than I normally eat in a month lol.
Ok so I started out the day with a craving for a lox “sandwich.” I make this by putting 3 slices of lox on a nice sturdy romaine leaf, with some capers, a bit of red onion, two slices of tomato, and topped off with another lettuce leaf. YUM. I actually prefer this to when I used to have lox on a bagel – the taste is crisper and clearer this way. Sorry for the blurry pic!
Through the course of the morning and afternoon, I snacked on this fabulous fruit arrangement that we had in the office. I had several pineapple “flowers”, quite a few strawberries, some grapes, and a number of orange slices. (I saved the kale at the bottom for a smoothie at a later date!)
I forgot to take a picture at lunch! However, it was five types of fish (I should really learn more so I know which ones, aside from salmon and tuna which of course I recognize) with some shredded daikon, requisite soy sauce, wasabi and ginger, and a small salad with an excellent carrot ginger dressing.
Dinner was at a great Korean restaurant that I chose specifically because I knew they have this huge salad with raw fish (Hwae Dop Bap) that is great for me. And of course, the tofu that I cheated a bit for (which did NOT sit well with my system today, alas), the lotus root, and a few bites of this avocado “ball” filled with spicy tuna.
I also had a few glasses of baekseju, a Korean rice wine. I also had a sip of plum wine that my friend ordered.
Then we went out dancing! Which meant I ended up drinking a little bit more – one half glass of sangria, one taste of a mojito, and one glass of white wine. Not fabulous perhaps, but overall not nearly as bad as it could have been.
Got home pretty late, tired, and a bit hungry from all the dancing, so I had a handful of dates – 8 to be exact. Didn’t snap a picture of that one, but just picture a date, multiply by eight, and you’ve pretty much got it. 😀
Overall I felt very good today, although I think drinking may not have been the best thing to do at dinner as I started to get a bit down on myself while out dancing, and I am fairly sure that is because the soju affected me much more than the wine that I normally indulge in. I had tons of energy throughout the day, and was not hungry at all, nor really having much in the way of cooked food craving – aside from the tofu and lotus root of course, but in both cases I was thoroughly satisfied with just two or three bites, and had no desire to try any of my friend’s dishes, though they looked and smelled quite delish. I would call the day a success. I did definitely however feel sluggish Saturday, and gassy, which I am certain can be tracked to the cooked food I ate.
